A Brief Program Overview
The core of my curriculum consists of teaching methods for each section of the SAT and ACT. I know what the big test prep companies advise and over the years I have honed these techniques, enhancing what works, discarding what does not, and alway keeping my eye on what works for the particular student in front of me.
The sessions involve teaching/reviewing the methods and reviewing homework. Homework consists of completed practice tests and test sections. I always work with real tests published by the test maker, those in The Official ACT Prep Guide and SAT Study Guide, as well as those that I have on file. Through this work I can quickly assess which test best suits a particular student.
All lessons are one-on-one and my approach is individualized for the particular student and the time available until his or her test date. For that reason, the number of sessions will vary from person to person, though 8 lessons is usually the minimum. Single lessons can be purchased at any time when needed. Payment is by Venmo, bank transfer, or check.
To begin, I ask the students to purchase The Official ACT Prep Guide (any recent edition is fine) and for the SAT The Official SAT Study Guide. Lessons are currently both in person and by Zoom using the whiteboard tool for demonstrating problem solutions and giving notes. All my students are highly motivated and actually enjoy the process of improving not just their scores and test-taking abilities, but also their knowledge in the core areas of grammar, reading comprehension, geometry, and algebra.
I can schedule any day of the week and can usually find a time that will work for both of us. Please let me know if I can answer any further questions!
Sincerely,
Sean Simon, PhD
